Bogdan Zdrojewski, Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, has announced that the Polish Maritime Museum has been honoured with a change of name to the National Maritime Museum, in Gdansk.
The decision of the Minister of Culture was announced during a jubilee meeting of the Society of Friends of the Polish Maritime Museum, held to commemorate the museum’s 55th anniversary.
Jerzy Litwin, Director of the Museum said: “It is a great honour to be considered worthy of the title of National Maritime Museum. In making this announcement, Minister Zdrojewski has acknowledged our achievements. Above all, he has appreciated our comprehensive development, which has resulted in the establishment of several departments in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the extension of the Museum presence on Olowianka Island and the creation of a new department – the Maritime Culture Centre.
“Due to our activities, we have managed to collect unique museum collections, including numerous historic monuments of maritime technology, in particular historic vessels Dar Pomorza and Soldek, as well as a rich collection of traditional Polish and foreign boats. And this is just the beginning of the list of our achievements”, said the Director.
