The Maritime Museum Rotterdam won the 2017 silver SponsorRing in the category ‘sponsored institution’ in the annual awards.
The SponsorRing is awarded for the best sponsorship cases in the Netherlands.
The jury praised the Museum, which managed to finance two-thirds of its exhibition the Offshore Experience (€ 4,8 million) through 56 partners in the Maritime & Offshore industry. The jury said: “The Maritime Museum succeeded in convincing 56 companies of the importance of co-operation with the museum. The jury is impressed with the quality of the exhibition and the number of visitors the museum attracts with this stout and contemporary exhibition. The PR for the project was a strong and driving factor here; with a budget for a good above and below the line campaign”.
General Director Frits Loomeijer commented: “It is great to get recognition on a national level for this achievement that we reached together with our partners in the Offshore Experience."
The Offshore Experience is the first exhibition in the Netherlands about the offshore sector, in which the country is a major player. Holland’s modern-day maritime prowess is, at the same time, both unknown and unloved by the general public. With this project, the Maritime Museum not only provides a spectacular overview of the search for oil, gas and wind energy at sea, but also plots an innovative course in research, collection policy, education and funding.
The Offshore Experience, in which visitors find themselves on board a platform at sea, is the biggest project the Maritime Museum ever developed. The Museum attracted some 200,000 visitors to the end of 2017. Earlier in the year the exhibition won the Offshore Energy Public Outreach Award, the bronze European Design Award and was nominated for the Museum & Heritage Awards, Children in Museums Award and the World Interiors News Award.
