The Naval and Oceanographic Museum is an institution aimed at showing
to the general public the Brazilian sea history since the discovery
to nowadays, so it emphasizes the enrollment of the Navy of Brazil
in many wars and outstanding happenings in this country and the
illustrious people who directly took part on its forming, enactment
and development
Exhibits & Programs:
The assets are formed by a paints gallery, silverware, furniture,
medals and decorations, clothing, ordnance, old items from warships,
warship models, nautical instruments, and many other items of great
historical and cultural value somehow connected to facts and heroes
over the Brazilian naval history.

Marble bust of Admiral Joaquim Marques Lisboa, Marquis of Tamandaré
- by Soares dos Reis, Porto, Portugal, 1875
A letter from Villegagnon to the duke of guise from 1557,at the
time of the occupation of Rio de Janeiro by the French
Portuguese bronze cannon - from the galleon Santíssimo Sacramento
that was sunk in 1668
Admiral Barroso's gold sword - to him offered by the Brazilian colony
in Montevideo
Necklace of the rose and Queen's Chamberlain insignia - decorations
offered to the Admiral Marquis of Tamandaré for his loyalty
to the emperor D. Pedro II and for his outstanding services on behalf
of his country
