During the 2011 ICMM Congress in Washington DC, the ICMM Executive Council selected one of two bids for the 2013 Congress.

The 2013 ICMM Congress will be held in Portugal, from 8-14 September, 2013. The Congress location is Cascais, on the Estoril Coast, some 20 kilometres from Lisbon.

The organisers are drawing together several Portugese maritime museums for involvement in the Congress, led by the Portugese Maritime Museum (Museu de Marinha).

At the invitation of the ICMM Executive Council, Marika Hedin, Director of the Vasa Museum, Stockholm, Sweden, is heading the 2013 Congress academic programme committee.
