Come by land or water to welcome the boating season with a Blessing of the Fleet ceremony at Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in historic, waterfront St. Michaels, Maryland, USA. The ceremony begins at 5:00 p.m on Thursday 12 April 2018 near CBMM’s shipyard, and includes a presentation of the colors, the Star Spangled Banner, and Navy Hymn.
The Blessing of the Fleet is free and open to the public. A special blessing will be given for the 1912 river tug Delaware, which will undergo a major restoration in full public view at CBMM beginning in late 2018. Built in Bethel, De., Delaware is a rare example of a typical early 20th century wooden river tug, and often hauled scows laden with lumber, and towed ram schooners up and down the Eastern Shore’s narrow, winding rivers.
